I began with a dreamy, ambient, downtempo, deep, introspective set tonight. The first hour of Zabiela's journey consists of minimal beats, moving melodies and atmospheric sounds that puts me in his world of drifting progressive cruise control for self-reflection. The journey is enticing from the get-go because it is an original approach of capturing conversation and carefully placing excerpts within the music for transitional moments and echoing. Every track belongs in its sequential order to give me that assurance that Zabiela is an expert and trust him in his directing. Without warning - after an hour of complete aural bliss, some drum & bass rolls into the midst of paradise to put energy into a mix and to let me know that you cannot have a progressive DJ set without a climax. After listening to this mix dozens of times now, I honestly consider this mix to be one of the most timeless sets put together by any DJ. The only other DJs that have ever given me that sensation are Keoki: All Mixed Up; Taylor: Synesthesia; Danny Howells: 24:7 Day Disc; Singularity: Shadowplay; and, of course, Sasha & John Digweed: The Northern Exposure Series.
